Comic Con- Day 1

I am currently sitting in our hotel bed with stinky feet, an achey back and dry eyes and I am as tired as all get out...but today was just too good not to post about, so I am gonna do it. Plus Sal from Cromeyellow is siting across from me pumping out posts like a beast and I can't let him show me up (Although he is going to!)
So Day 1 is done. I honestly did not know what to expect today. I can appreciate nerd culture just as much as the geek to the left of me (which would be TK) but other than my one day trip to Phx Comic Con a couple months back, I have never experienced true fandom. But I figured, hey I am in San Diego and if this little convention is just too boring and weird, my sister in law and I can always just shop and go to the beach. Win/Win. I'm happy to report, shopping is now on the bottom of my list!
How I could ever think I would be bored is just silly. There is just too much to visually entertain you.
The main floor where all the vendors are set up, is enough to have you lost for hours and aside from the long list of panels to choose from, you really never get tired of seeing some dedicated cosplayer in some wild get up walk by. People watching might just be my favorite thing to do as of right now!

Geekin' Out...

We have escaped the brutal heat of Arizona and traded it in for the musty aroma of geeks from around the world to attend San Diego Comic Con!

 We will be here until Sunday and maybe I will post stuff, but let's be real, probably not. Let your hair down...or not

Thursday marked  my last day of school for a whole week! I know one week may not seem like a decent break but when you go to school 30 hours a week in 3 days, you will take what you can get.
(Although, I already miss all my lovely cosmetology friends!)
Even though I am on break, I did more hair then ever this weekend!
Friday I worked on a photoshoot/project for school with my partners Sully and Katie. I am really excited with how it turned out and I can't wait to share it here, but for now here is just a little sneak peak:

Tim had been bugging me for awhile now about a haircut so on Saturday morning I woke up and said "It's now or never!" and he jumped in the chair and put a cape on. Then he ended up looking like this:

J/K guys, he is still as handsome as ever. And let me tell you, this man has a ton of hair. I might start cutting it off in his sleep and selling it.

After I swept and showered off of me the enormous amounts of Korean hair that was left over, Kara came over for a little fun color! We added a few highlights underneath for, as she referred to it, "a little blonde surprise". I think it came out super cute! Perfect sun kissed hair.
Oh, and then I stole this picture from her instagram. And although not documented, Emily was there too and she ate Wendy's while we did hair.

Gosh, we are so good looking. 

Sunday I did no ones hair but my own. Although, I begged my mom to let me chop hers off. I swear, I am gonna buy that lady a bottle of wine, get her nice and liquored up, and that haircut is going to happen.

Now I am really on a break. As we speak my Dani and my cousin Kienan are driving to arizona and I am so so excited! They will be hear till Thursday and then my longtime annoyance/bff Jerame flies in Friday, and then Wednesday we head to California for Comic-Con! Okay maybe there is no real break in there but Im looking forward to it none the less.

Timmy Without A Tooth...

A couple weeks ago we decided to take a trip to California and on the day we intended to leave I received a call from TK while I was at work, that went a little something like this:
"Oh the pain! The excruciating pain! I cannot drive to LA, please Bri take me to the dentist before I die!" So in an effort to win Wife of the Year, I took him to the dentist. Apparently TK's wisdom teeth are not all that wise (I had to ) and decided to grow in sideways and bully his molars.

So we got the diagnosis- teeth must be pulled- and a little Vicodin and went on our way.

Yesterday was thee day for the pulling. I have to tell you, Tim was not too excited about this particular event. You may recall I had my own extraction experience at the end of last year, and Tim was pretty anxious just while sitting in the room with me. In addition to the typical dental jitters, he was also a little unsettled about the idea of being put under. He confessed his fear to me in a very sincere tone...
"Bri, I am afraid of pooping while I am under anesthesia". I assured him that would not happen, but secretly hoped for a good story to tell the grandkids.

With butterflies in his stomach, he pulled up his big boy pants and headed into surgery. Forty five minutes later, I was taken to the back room to meet my loopy husband who probably said more words in a 60 second period then he has ever in the 8 years I have known him. Including his disappointment in not having a trippy dream while on the drugs.

Look at those bad boys, those are some serious teeth! We may turn them into a necklace as a display for our love for each other, you know Angelina and Billy style. JK guys. But seriously, what are you supposed to do with your extracted teeth? We are open for suggestions.

All in all he handled it like a champ and I am proud of my guy. He hasn't complained of pain once and  his only request has been ice cream. Which is what he requests pretty much everyday.

Little Sister #2

So I did not intend to have back to back sister posts but as I said before, they are my most needy clients and since they live around the corner from me, it is rather hard to escape them!

Let me introduce you to little sister # 2, also known as Maliea, but most often known as Pukah. 

She does not get a lot of face time on the blog because she is 16 and daily wins the award for Most Angsty Teenager in the World and never wants to take pictures or participate. Ah, don't you miss being a teenager and hating the world? 

Moving on...in the middle of having a bad attitude and rolling her eyes, she may have expressed her desire for red hair once or twice or a million times. We are not talking Emma Stone red or maybe Christina Hendricks red. Oh no, we are talking Rihanna, bright, bright red. Your only 16 once right?

So yesterday morning I woke up way too early for a Sunday and got to work on her massive head of hair. 

* and I apologize for theses out of focus shots... I am not on the top of my camera game before noon on a weekend.

 So a little history for you all... My dear sister may have been riding solo on this journey to red hair for awhile and she may have only had grocery store color to sustain her. Let this faded orange hair be a   lesson my friends, patience is a virtue and you should trust a professional (or at least an almost professional!) Thank god for the cute face!

And 4 inches off and a blow dry later...we have the Little Mermaid! 

She loves it, my parents hate it... ain't that they way it always goes? For the record, I am a fan! Im sure my parents are gonna the lay down the law soon and insist she opt for a shade that does not require sunglasses to observe, but for now she has finally gotten everything her little teenage heart desires. 

And really, isn't just the little things that matter when your 16?

Little Sisters Locks...

For some time now, ladies have been sporting beautiful fade to light locks, also know as Ombre. Considering the number of guests we get in the salon each week asking for this look, I have a feeling its gonna be sticking around for awhile longer. Of course, hair stylists are always looking for better and faster ways to improve a technique and since Ombre is in such high demand, it was on the top of our to do list. So last week at school, we took a kind little old mannequin head and tested out a way to do Ombre while the hair stays in a ponytail on top of the head. We were all pretty impressed with the results but I was aching to try it on a real living person.
Enter the 13 year old little sister, Olivia.
Ever since I started cosmetology school, my sisters request my services about once a week, so I finally used it to my advantage and made her my model! Here is how it went down...

Step 1:
Tie hair into ponytail on the top of head (If the hair is shorter, its probably best to tie one on top and an additional pony towards the bottom)

Step 2:
Tease hair up until you leave the desired amount you wish to color

Step 3:
Paint on lightner up to teased point. Saturate ends but feather towards the teased hair.
The feathering helps to avoid that hideous perfectly straight line that gives you a very defined two tone look. Example here

Step 4:
Let Process.

Step 5:
Take a picture of your smiling sister, who hates to smile because she is 13 but can't stop smiling because she loves her hair.

(We took the two top photos pretty late at night, so I restyled her hair the next morning and I liked it even more!)

(Note: the night before I also cute off a good three inches and freshened up her layers so her hair looks extra healthy! Little mini makeover for the Livster!)

 I absolutely hate seeing girls with Ombre hair and no dimension. I think this style looks the best when the placement appears more natural and random instead of straight across and clearly sectioned. I love this technique! It does everything I love and in half the time. It's the perfect way to lighten up your locks for summer. So who's next?

Little Faces...

Forgive me for being that person right now but I got to spend a little time with my niece in LA this past weekend and as always it was the highlight of my trip so I am gonna gush for a second. I just snapped a few pictures of her before we said our goodbyes and I can't stop staring at that precious little thing. I love being an Auntie. I love knowing this little person and watching her grow and learn and being called "Auntie Branna" and knowing that I will have an effect on her life and choosing to be a part of it. I am sure I will  feel similar to this and probably ten times over when I have my own kids, but being "Auntie" is something special. The day Liela was born, I understood what the word Precious really means, and every time I see this face, I am reminded of it.
